Also known as "The Grey Gentlemen" or "The Men in Grey", this original painting was created for the fantasy novel by Michael Ende, published by Penguin UK, 1989 (I show the published cover for reference) Ende, who is also known for writing the children's fantasy "the Neverending Story" also wrote this fairy tale about the concept of time, money and the loss of imagination, featuring a little girl named "Momo" who has no parents.  Haberfield's style - clearly influenced by Magritte - works wonderfully here to capture the strangeness of the tale.  Hand-painted in gouache on artboard, 25" x 16"
