This is the Original preliminary art created for the cover of Book #3 in the "Ice Prophet" trilogy by  William R. Forstchen, published by Ballantine/Del Rey in paperback, 1985 (I show the published cover for reference)  It's usual for an artist to create more than one preliminary painting to show to the Art Director, given them the option of more than one concept for the cover....this was not the composition chosen, but it surely is fantastic imagery! Handpainted in acrylic on illustration board, 7" x 4.25"  with title on the back
