This original illustration is not identified in Pether's inventory as being related to a specific book or publication, but the style and pose suggests one in a series of romance novels by Catherine Cookson, The painting is very beautifully painted in gouache and acrylic and possibly tempura, on illustration board, 18" x 12.75" and like others from the early 80s with unpainted backgrounds, there is some discoloration from age but the central figures are fine,  andthe painting comes with a label affixed to the back attesting to authenticity.
