In the 1980s Dave Pether started producing several paintings for the weekend British TV series called London Weekend Television (LWT) - well known for showing American films and TV show series as well as British ones. The images were used for intro titles as well as backgrounds for commercial breaks. Most would have been used 1983-1987. "Goldengirl" was a 1979 American drama sci-fi sports film based on the 1977 science fiction novel of the same title by Peter Lear ( pseudonym of Peter Lovesey). The film was notable for being the screen debut of Susan Anton, who starred in the title role opposite James Coburn. Done in gouache and acrylic on illustration board, 14.5" x 17.25" and comes with the acetate overlay, plus a label attesting to authenticity signed by Pether's widow on the back. As you can see there is discoloration/spotting over most of the top right corner of the board, the cause of which I am uncertain so not sure if this removed. But for nostalgias sake, there is the main image - well done - so I have priced it with that in mind.
