This is the original cover painting for the fictional historical novel by James Michener, carrying the inventory information "Corgi, 1986".  Likely commissioned as were other Michener titles by the publisher, possibly for an edition with limited distribution - and it's a gorgeous painting, beautifully rendered in gouache and acrylic on illustration board, 13.5" x 20" in "wraparound" format, and comes with a label attesting to its authenticity signed by Pether's widow, mounted to the back.  There are other covers for Michener novels - inquire if interested - but none like this one  - one of the best - so if you love it, don't hesitate.
