Combining the two genres (sports and science fiction) in one story is a challenge for any writer; but  George Alec Effinger proved that he was up to the task in his novelette published in Analog Magazine, May issue, 1973.  And Schoenherr was also, unsurprisingly,  up to depicting a baseball player in this stylish ink on poster board painting, 22"  x 15" (identified as #1 of 2 interiors he produced for the story)  Major work, with publishers paste-up text and notations.  Any original artwork by Schoenherr is rare to the market....
